In Japanese Rei means spirit, ki means energy so the word Reiki literally translates as spiritual energy. Reiki strives to heal the origin of the problem through energy work, as all living things have an energy all their own.

Using Reiki maintains health, heals illnesses & injuries on all levels and can ease the transition between life & death. 

The short answer is that it depends on the service and particular animal. For example, a laser treatment for pain should show almost immediate relief for a given amount of time. However, if we are healing the skin after a wound or surgery it may take a few sessions to see the difference.
